Allouez is a township in Keweenaw County, in the Houghton metro area.   Allouez is a small community on US 41/M26 at the boundary line with Houghton Co. The community was named after the Allouez Mining Co.   It is in the Eastern Standard time zone. Elevation is 988 feet.   The population, at the time of the 2000 census, was 1,584.   It is situated near Lake Superior. Lake Superior is also known for great Salmon and Trout fishing.   Chinook Salmon, Coho Salmon and Pink Salmon are all abundant in Lake Superior.   Many small rivers and streams feed Lake Superior providing great fishing for shore anglers. Trout fishing on Lake Superior is strong for Rainbow Trout, Brown Trout, Steelhead Trout and Lake Trout.

 

Anglers going out on Lake Superior are encountering fair to good fishing, especially in water about 120 to 140 feet deep.   Anglers caught lake trout, Coho and Chinook salmon in these areas, although the fish were higher in the water column.   Most anglers were trolling with planer boards or vertical jigging.   Lake trout ranged from 16 to 25 inches, Coho’s ranged from 17 to 19 inches and Chinooks ranged from 17 to 27 inches.o8

Snowmobiling is one of greatest winter sports in the Upper Peninsula.
